We research how citizens interact with the law, and we contribute to develop a judicial culture of legality and democracy that strengthens institutions and respects human rights. We focus our research on improving norm compliance and on socio-legal education.<\/p>\n
We conduct research on national and international standards on freedom of expression, with a special focus on Latin America.<\/p>\n
We promote a stronger protection\u00a0of the rights to access public information, privacy and personal data in the context of new technologies.<\/p>\n
At the international level, we collaborate with the Privacy International Network in order to protect and guarantee privacy in the digital era. A the\u00a0national level we are part of\u00a0the alliance More Information, More Rights<\/a><\/em>, which promotes access to public information.\u00a0<\/p>\n According to the Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International for 2016, Colombia obtained a rating of 37\/100. How to characterize the phenomenon of corruption in Colombia and what academic and public policy strategies can be adopted to counteract it?<\/p>\n This guide covers the main current legal rules under the inter-American order on freedom of expression.<\/p>\n In this text, we offer options so that transitional justice mechanisms and society at large can have access to intelligence and counterintelligence archives, which relate to the armed conflict in Colombia.<\/p>\n We intervened to support a tutela that requires the government to pave the C\u00e9sar Rodr\u00edguez defended that the Comprehensive System of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Guarantees of Non-Repetition is in line with the Constitution. Regarding penalties, he affirmed that international law discusses effective sanctions, not imprisonment.<\/p>\n Dejusticia carried out citizen interventions regarding the constitutionality of Police Code articles that establish police measures for several categories of persons and activities.<\/p>\n At a time when the human rights movement is facing great challenges, and at a moment when there is a widespread recognition that the human rights movement must be more interdisciplinary, and locally connected, human rights advocates should be more purposeful in integrating art, in addition to social sciences, into our practice.<\/p>\n The unforeseen incidents of bringing together a handful of indigenous leaders from around the world to Colombia for the First Global Workshop for Indigenous Leaders.<\/p>\n Justice through people’s own hands and the deaths in neighborhoods fights show the failure of the State in several sectors of the city, especially those that are outside the tourist circuit.<\/p>\n Photo: Piyushgiri Revagar<\/p>\n The University of Columbia, in collaboration with Dejusticia, UNESCO, FLIP, and Universidad Externado de Colombia launch the Spanish Online Database of Case Law on Freedom of Expression<\/p>\n \u201cThis initiative demonstrates the importance of creating multi-stakeholder synergies in support of protecting freedom of expression in the region,\u201d said Lidia Brito, Regional Director of UNESCO Montevideo Office. The Spanish database includes significant decisions about Freedom of Expression and Access to Information from 16 Latin American countries and a number of other rulings from around the world, analyzed by a team of Colombian lawyers supervised by \u00a0\u00a0Catalina Botero Marino<\/a>, founding member of Dejusticia, international human rights lawyer, and former Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of American States.<\/p>\n The latest publication related to this project is: “The right to freedom of expression: advanced course for judges and legal practitioners in the Americas, which you can find here.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n Thus, they establish massive surveillance mechanisms which, because of a lack of definitions and limits, and for its failure to balance means and ends, result in violations of\u00a0the rights to privacy and of the writ of habeas data.<\/p>\n Dejusticia is part of\u00a0 \u00a0Privacy International Network<\/a><\/em>, a network of organizations that defend the right to privacy in more than twenty countries in the Global South. To achieve this, each text was edited and mined for the sections\u00a0that contained its\u00a0essential ideas.<\/p>\n This book attempts to contribute to the debate about issues related to justice and law in Colombia, from a democratic perspective and with a view to defending the rule of law.
