15 people will be selected to participate in the workshop. Ideally 5 leaders from each region will participate (5 from the America, 5 from Africa, and 5 from Asia) The first workshop will take place on 15-22 December, 2018 in the Amazon Region. During these days, participants will participate in sessions on strategic litigation, social mobilization, human rights advocacy, and indigenous rights. Sessions will be led by social leaders and international and Colombian experts.<\/p>\n

The Workshop has three main objectives. First, it aims to consolidate alliances and collaborations between activists and indigenous organizations in the Global South. Second, it seeks to strengthen the capacity of analysis, advocacy, and mobilization of participants through learning and collective reflection sessions about these topics. Last, it hopes to construct a global strategy of defense and promotion of indigenous people\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

Dejusticia and the Racial Discrimination Watch invites indigenous leaders in the Global South from the Americas, Africa, and Asia who work for the rights of peoples and communities to apply. We ask that applicants are between 25 and 40 years old and are affiliated to an indigenous people\u2019s organization. Participants must have an interest in improving their knowledge for the defense and protection of indigenous people\u2019s rights, increasing the solidarity networks between different causes, and participating in a long-term legal and political strategy.<\/p>\n

The cost of travel, transport, materials for the workshop, and room and board will be covered for all the participants. The scholarships for the Workshop and the monitoring project are possible thanks to the support of the Ford Foundation.<\/p>\n

There will be translation between English and Spanish throughout the workshop. It is required to have a high level in at least one of these two languages. To apply to the workshops, each person must send:<\/p>\n
1.<\/strong> A letter of recommendation from the indigenous people\u2019s organization where you work. This letter must include the name of the applicant, their position, and their main responsibilities.<\/p>\n 2.<\/strong> A text (2 pages maximum, font size 12, 1.5 spacing), video or radio program in which the applicant introduces the cases they have worked on.
