The Climate Change Coordinator of the International Area will work with the area Director and members of the Environmental Justice Team in developing and implementing Dejusticia\u2019s climate change international strategies. S\/he will also lead collaborations with human rights networks and organizations working on climate change across the Global South, as well as other relevant actors in the field of climate change and human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Organizational overview<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Dejusticia is a think-do tank based in Bogot\u00e1 and known for its leadership in public debates, research work that is often cited by academia and government, and its norm-changing litigation in Colombia and Latin America. We promote positive social change by producing rigorous studies and fact-based policy proposals; carrying out effective advocacy campaigns and litigating in the most impactful forums; and designing and delivering education and capacity-building programs. At Dejusticia, we believe that academic work can be committed to social justice and can contribute to effect change. We have an \u201camphibious\u201d approach to our work: we take deep dives in academic and policy-design research and writing with a clear sense of how much this can impact our direct action and advocacy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dejusticia\u2019s unique traits\u2014being a combination of a think tank that undertakes rigorous academic research and an activist NGO that leads high-impact litigation, advocacy, and training of key actors in the social change field\u2014have made it an important reference point and expert voice, both within Colombia and also internationally, with a distinct Global South perspective.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Within Colombia, Dejusticia has been at the forefront of issues such as transitional justice, drug policy, environmental justice, indigenous peoples\u2019 rights, judicial reform, rule of law and anti-corruption, privacy and transparency, socioeconomic justice, and gender equality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Internationally, it has been doing work on the closing of spaces for civic participation, climate change, migration , business and human rights, privacy and transparency, and economic, social, and cultural rights. About the position\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

The Climate Change Research Coordinator will work with the International Research Team in developing Climate Change research and will also contribute to coordinate the work on Business and Human Rights (BHR) at the international level. He\/she will develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and communicate regularly with them regarding Dejusticia\u2019s Climate Change and BHR international work. Internal stakeholders include directors, other research areas, and administrative staff. External stakeholders include human rights organizations, international networks and organizations, and other actors in the human rights field.<\/span><\/p>\n

Working closely with the International Area Director and other teams across the organization, the Climate Change Coordinator is expected to:<\/span><\/p>\n

– Contribute to develop Dejusticia\u2019s international Climate Change work\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

– Collaborate with the Environmental Justice Area in the internationalization of their work<\/span><\/p>\n

– Coordinate the work on Business and Human Rights at the international level<\/span><\/p>\n

– Working with partners to increase advocacy before the inter-American and international humans rights systems on issues related to Climate Change, Environmental Justice and BHR<\/span><\/p>\n

– Implement and report on projects associated with the core international activities, such as the development of international human rights research and collaboration with organizations from the Global South<\/span><\/p>\n

– Strengthen and deepen Dejusticia\u2019s work to provide solidarity with the human rights movement globally, mainly by supporting the work of the Education and Capacity Building Team in organizing international courses of the School of Human Rights Practice, such as the BHR course.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Building collaborative relationships with partner universities, human rights organizations, and other relevant stakeholders in the field of climate change and human rights<\/span><\/p>\n

Required Qualifications<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

– Fluency in English and Spanish<\/span><\/p>\n

– Professional degree in law, political science, social science or related fields<\/span><\/p>\n

– LLM, MSc, or MA; <\/span>or<\/span><\/i> JD or LLB <\/span>and<\/span><\/i> at least five years of work experience<\/span><\/p>\n

– Five to seven years of experience working on human rights at an international level<\/span><\/p>\n

Skills<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

– Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong public speaking skills, in both English and Spanish<\/span><\/p>\n

– Highly organized and with advanced project management skills, ability to streamline processes, and work well under pressure with limited supervision<\/span><\/p>\n

– Strong analytical skills, experience using various data systems, and an inclination towards team decision-making<\/span><\/p>\n

– Capacity to collaborate with a wide range of international partners on global rights issues<\/span><\/p>\n

– Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds<\/span><\/p>\n

Compensation and Benefits<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

As a full-time and Colombia-based employee, the Coordinator will receive a monthly salary within the range of\u00a0<\/span>COP 6 800 000 \u2013 COP 8 400 000<\/span> (\u2248 USD 2060 \u2013 USD 2550<\/span>), depending on experience and qualifications. <\/span>In addition to the legal benefits of two extra monthly payments per year, benefits for foreign workers will include a return ticket to home country per contract year, Colombian health insurance coverage, pension payments, a relocation allowance, and travel insurance for work trips.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dejusticia provides 15 days of paid leave per year, plus eight additional days (during Easter and Christmas breaks) of bonus paid leave for its staff.<\/span><\/p>\n
